NSS

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

INTRODUCTION
The NSS was launched on September 24th 1969 in 37 universities covering all states 
The underlying principle of programmes which are organised by the students and teachers through their combined participation in social service and to get a sense of involvement in the process of national development.

National Service Scheme- Students can get an opportunity to serve the society in and around them. A student is expected to complete minimum of 120 hrs. in various social works outside the college in one academic year. The University gives 10 additional marks to such students who complete 120 hrs. in various social works.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The objective of the National Service Scheme is 
“Development of the personality of students through community service.” 
This objective is sought to be achieved by enabling the student to:

  • Understand the community in which they work
  • Understand themselves of relation to their community.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community in the solution of which they can be in involved.
  • Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Apply their education in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and disasters.
  • Practice national integration.

TERM OF NSS

A student enrolled in NSS is expected to put in at least 120 hours of social service in 2 projects in an academic year and shall be entitled to get a certificate from the university on completion of 2 years term i.e. 240 hours.
A student is also expected to attend at least 1 special camp in 2 years of NSS
It is suggested that out of 120 hours of social service, each student is expected to put in during then academic year, at least 20 hours be used in the 1st year for orientation programs 
Suggestive list of the activities during the Regular as well as Special camping programs

  • Environment and conservation
  • Health family welfare and Nutrition program
  • Program aimed at creating awareness for improvement of status of women {women’s welfare }
  • Social service program : working with hospital, institutions, organizations, orphanages, home for the aged, depending upon the local needs and priorities
  • Production oriented programs
  • Relief and rehabilitation work during natural calamities

THE ESSENCE OF N S S EMBLEM

The NSS volunteers wear it while undertaking various programmes of community service. The Konark Wheel in the symbol has eight bars, which represent 24 hours of the day. Hence, the badge reminds the wearer to be in readiness for service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours. The red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood i.e. lively, active and spirited. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS the tiny part ready to contribute its share for the welfare of mankind.

 

NCC

NATIONAL CADET CORPS- Though the college does not have a NCC unit, students can enroll in NCC in Patkar College, Goregaon (Boys) and Ghanashyamdas Saraf College, Malad (Girls).
 

WDC

Women Development Cell- the College has a WDC as per the guidelines laid down by the University. The WDC conducts various activities with regard to women’s legal rights, awareness on AIDS, pre-marriage counseling etc.
