Annual Report 2007-08 of the J. M. Patel College of Commerce


ACADEMICS

The T.Y.BCOM. results of 2006-2007 was satisfactory .There were 225 students who have had appeared in the examinations and 121 students were successful i.e 54%.Of these 22 got first class. Shri Narendra Gusain got highest marks with 70.43 %. We are continuously striving our best to get the maximum of our students .We are confident that our results will improve significantly in coming years.


CULTURAL

At inter-collegiate-collegiate level, competitions held at

1)Patkar College, Goregaon(W) :
   a) in STREET PLAY I prize
   b) in Rangoli II prize

2) at ANUBHAV, Mumbai I prize in STREET PLAY , I prize in Singing,II prize Rangoli and
    Poster Making.

NSS

Our NSS student volunteers are highly active and take part in many activities round the year. In the month of December blood donation and THALLESEMEA detection camp was organised in which 114 blood bottles were collected and 258 students undergone Thallesemea detection.

A 10 day camp was held at Kopari viilage ,Virar(E) wherein cleanliness, AIDS awareness drive were the central objective of the camp.

Our NSS student volunteers have carried out a survey from C.S.T. to Karjat and Churchgate to Virar to find out the state of public toilet facilities in platforms of Mumbai Suburban railway stations. The survey reveals that in most of the toilets used by gents are unhygienic while ladies toilets are either absent or closed.

Awareness lecture and a street play on AIDS was organised by Shri Natha Chavan and his colleagues.


NCC

Though the college does not have a NCC unit, students enrolled themselves with Patkar College (boys) and Saraf College (girls) and our NCC students are doing exceptionally well since many years. This year Shri Mahesh Gadak , Jr. under Officer has attended Annual Training Camp(ATC) and NIC at Kolhapur He has cleared B-certificate with ‘B’ grade and got I prize in ‘Best Event’at the Republic day function. Congratulations to Mahesh.


Mr. Hemant Walwalkar of T.Y.Bcom. won GOLD MEDAL and BEST FIGHTER TROPHY at Maharashtra State level Karate Championship, organised by Self Protection, Yoga and Sports Academy, Mumbai. Heartiest congratulations to Hemant.
In Kho-kho and Kabaddi tournament held at Kirti College in which our performance was satisfactory.


SEMINARS / WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED

  1. Prof. Rajesh Dalal took the initiative along with Prof. Jayseh Vaidya of Vivek College of Commerce in organising one day workshop on the New Syllabus of F.Y.Bcom and the Proposed Syllabi of S.Y.Bcom and T.Y.Bcom 6th September,2007.
    The workshop was attended by 66 faculty from various colleges mainly C.As wherein proposed syllabi of S.Y.Bcom and T.Y.Bcom has been outlined. My appreciation to Prof. Dalal for his sincere efforts.

  2. Mrs. Vidya Hanchinal the Librarian and Mrs. Bindu Verma the librarian of Vivek college of Commerce came together to organise one day seminar on CHANGING DIMENSIONS OF ACADEMIC LIBRARIES AND IMPACT OF NAAC,
    in which 50 librarians and lecturers have had participated and the seminar was inaugurated by you sir on 17th October,2007. My appreciation to Mrs. Vidya for her sincere efforts.

  3. Workshop on the new syllabus of Mathematics and Statistical Techniques for F.Y.Bcom.(2008-09) was held on 21st February 2008 again jointly with Vivek College. Prof. D.M.Patil and Prof (Mrs.) Anjali Pathak and Prof. Mohanan of Vivek college took the lead in organising this workshop successfully.


We have organised two co-curricular competitions
1) Book Review competition and
2) Statistical Data presentation competition.
In Book Review competition 12 students of seven colleges took part and the I prize went to a student of M.L.Dahnukar college of Commerce,Vile Parle(E).
There were 5 groups in Statistical Data presentation competition and Shailendra College won the Ist prize.

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL (WDC)

WDC has organized Essay writing competition, an awareness lecture on ‘Dowry-An evil system’ by Shri Mamasaheb Kulkarni. In association with Swadhar, a lecture on ‘Women laws that protect’and Women and Health’.


PLACEMENT CELL

Interviews were conducted for the post of Management Trainee by Mennen Group in which 3 students were selected. Apex Laboratories selected 6 students as Medical Representatives. Beside this Aptitude Test were conducted by NIIT, Frankfinn & Wegan  and Leigh College.


TALLY COURSE

This year doring the Diwali vacation the college along with MICM have conducted Tally 9.0 for girls students only. A short course on English Speaking was also done for students.

Moreover,39 students participated in Competitive Test of Secretarial Practice conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, WIRC on 16th March,2008.

It is not too late for the college to spread its wing to fly high.
From the academic year 2008-2009 the degree college is preparing to start
B.Sc in Information Technology and B.Com in Financial Markets (SELF FINANCING COURSES).
